About us

Lifesaving Free State is a multi-sport code, including competitions and Lifesaving skills.

We also do duty (community service) at open water and swimming pool events.

We have 2 clubs in Bloemfontein – Bloemfontein Central and Mangaung.

We have another club situated in Kroonstad – Aqua Kroonstad.

We have several competitions during our season, which start in September to End of April.

Lifesaving have a winter program that include gymnasium sessions and 25 m pool training from July to end of August.

Lifesaving Free State is busy upgrading their skills in the Surf environment and have a training camp in Port Elizabeth during the September /October holiday. We will upgrade our Stillwater qualification to be able to partake in surf events, and give our competitors a chance to be more competitive in the Surf events.

With a Surf certificate (JLA and LA) the Lifesavers will be able (with prior arrangement) to work at the beach.

Our Certificates include rescue techniques, CPR, spinal board, first aid, flag signals, hand signals and many more.

We have a group of Lifesavers called Nippers, their age between 7 years and 13 years.

Our senior Lifeguards have a Junior Lifeguard award (14 – 18 years), and Senior Lifeguard award (19 years to 30 years) and then our masters from 31 years and up.

Lifesaving in Bloemfontein was found in 2006 and we started with 3 members.

Since them we have grown to 75 members.

Free State Lifesaving has also produced 3 Springboks (2 Bloemfontein and 1 Kroonstad) and 1 President Team member from Bloemfontein.

We have at this time 10 High Performance swimmers and a High Performance couch in the South African Lifesaving system. And from these swimmers they get selected to participate with Protea Colours or Presidents team colour in galas abroad.

Lifesaving Free State is a non-profitable federation and a member of the South African Lifesaving Federation, and members of SASCOC.

Two of our Senior Lifeguards was selected to work in Dubai for a year (2019). There is many opportunities to get work with your Lifeguard award abroad. We had the selection in Bloemfontein.
